How, Why and When was this Cogat Practice Test Introduced?

Students, who aim to be a part of join programmes for potentially gifted individuals, must appear for the cognitive abilities test, popularly known as the CogAT test. This test is the basic or staple requirement for entry into any such programmes. In order to correctly indicate the areas of strengths and weaknesses of students, CogAT test is mostly kept as similar as the IOWA Test of Basic Skills (ITBS), for being absolutely positive about the merit of the test taker applying to such programmes. Students can get a more accurate idea if they refer to any cogat practice test. For those who did not know, CogAT, is basically an assessment of the test taker’s ability to judge a problem with reasoning and using common sense. The test seeks to judge three basic capabilities, namely execution, memory and attendance. This test is divided into three sections. These sections are quantitative reasoning, verbal reasoning and non-verbal reasoning. These three sections of the cogat practice test are further divided into three sub-sections. The sections of the test are divided into sub-sections, in order to evaluate a person’s ability in these sections from different angles. A notable feature about this test is that it doesn’t require the person to have any previous knowledge or test takers do not have to study something specially for taking the CogAT test. Another thing about the CogAT is that it is very different from an IQ test.

3 sections of the Cogat Practice Test

Quantitative Reasoning- As the very name suggests, this section deals with mathematical concepts and judges the ease with which people can solve a problem using basic mathematical operations. The course for this section includes quantitative relations, equation building and quantitative reasoning. As the quantitative section of the test literally makes or breaks things, the test taker should have a fairly sound knowledge of mathematics. No matter which field a student chooses, one does require a basic knowledge of mathematics, thus the CogAT evaluates a student’s potential in a particular field, by indicating the level of mathematical knowledge of a student. People can get a fair idea about the type of question they are going to get, if they solve some questions from a Cogat Practice Test.

Verbal Reasoning- This section comprises of language based and verbal reasoning questions. For clearing this section, people need to be well versed with concepts of vocabulary, sentence completion, critical reasoning and writing and comprehension. In this test, people have to use the right words among a given set of options to complete a sentence, verbal analogies, questions from comprehension, and also questions based on critical reasoning.

Non-Verbal reasoning Section- This section comprises of questions based on geometrical patterns and figures. Here also, the section is divided into three separate sections, for evaluating a person’s reasoning ability from three varying angles. People need to know about figure analysis, figure classification, classification of figures and matrices. If people feel that they need to know more about this section, then it is highly recommended that they refer to some Cogat Practice Test.
